Autistic middle school student beaten up and caught on camera

KILLEEN -

A thirteen year old eight grader at Liberty Middle School was assaulted and beaten up during a fight as he was walking to meet his mother. The fight occurred just 300 feet away from his school.

Deandre Losero is Autistic and has ADHD, and his mother said this is not the first time they have beaten her son.

"This is not the first time his wrist has been broken, this is just the first time they caught it on tape," said Losero's mother Vivian Brundidge.

In the video, a group of children yelled racial slurs at Losero. They also encouraged a sixteen year old student to hit Losero, and told Losero to take the beating. Losero yelled back that he did not want to fight.

Brundidge works as a crossing guard at Cedar Valley Elementary, and could see the large crowd from a distance. She was unaware that it was her son being harassed until one of her students told her.

Brundidge immediately contacted the school and the school district, and they initially said they would not be able to do anything about it because it happened 300 feet from the school.

It took her a few weeks to retrieve the video of her son's beating, and she was appalled once she saw it.

"This should never happen to any child, because even if it hadn't been my child, I would have been disgusted by that video," explains Brundidge. "Very disgusted."

"I feel like I want him to know that he did nothing wrong."

Losero is proud of himself because he did not fight back.

"It shouldn't have happened because, as you hear multiple times in the video I said, 'I don't want to fight.' I don't feel like I'm stronger but I feel like I was the bigger man because I repeatedly told him I don't want to do this," said Losero.

Brundidge has since contacted the police and the school district once again, and KISD released this statement.

"Killeen ISD takes the safety of students and staff very seriously. Bullying, in any form, will not be tolerated. This incident, while occurring off of a Killeen ISD campus, is concerning. The district has been made aware of this situation and is working with the Killeen Police Department in investigating this matter. We cannot comment on individual consequences, however, this behavior is taken very seriously."
