McLennan County man holds woman at gunpoint, tussles with sheriff

MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

A McLennan County man has been arrested after threatening a woman with a gun and fighting with a sheriff Wednesday afternoon.

The McLennan County Sheriff's Office received a call about a suicidal man possibly heading to the Bosqueville Elementary School to pick up his child. Authorities say the suspect, Christopher Donaldson, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and was said to be in possession of a BB gun.

Deputies say Donaldson reportedly made statements that he wanted to kill himself in front of his children. Authorities went to the school and placed it on lockdown as a precaution.

"We didn't really know where he was at the time, we didn't want any of the children coming outside or any of the parents wondering into something that could have been a bad situation," McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said.

Deputies found Donaldson's vehicle near the intersection of Lone Star Dr. and China Spring Highway, but it was abandoned. A witness told deputies that he had given Donaldson a ride to the Bush's Chicken restaurant located at Baylor Camp Rd. and China Spring Highway.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara, Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon, Deputy R. Kirkland along with other deputies went to the restaurant and found Donaldson.

When he was confronted, the suspect pulled out a pistol and placed it to the head of his girlfriend, using her as a shield.

"It was a very dangerous situation, a very tense situation. Any time you have someone that has taken a hostage and you think they may harm them or kill them or turn the gun on you or somebody else," McNamara said.

Customers at the store, including a woman with her baby child, immediately left the store.  Sheriff McNamara was able to disarm Donaldson after a short struggle.

Donaldson has been charged with the outstanding warrant and an additional charge of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  That warrant was for a motion to revoke of a parole for a family violence charge.

Donaldson is the son of a China Spring Constable.
