Hillcrest CEO responds to morning lockdown

A threatening phone call caused Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center to be placed on a partial lockdown Wednesday morning.

Waco police responded to the hospital at 9:50 a.m. Extra security personnel were placed at the entrances of the hospital during the lockdown. Patients were free to come and go, but they had to be checked with a security wand before entering the building.

Glenn A. Robinson, CEO of Hillcrest, said in a statement Wednesday afternoon, "On behalf of our patients, visitors, physicians and employees, we are very thankful for the work of the Waco Police Department, the McLennan County Sheriff's Department, the Department of Public Safety and our own Hillcrest Security Department."

Waco police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Swanton says that no arrest has been made, but a person of interest has been identified. Swanton said the suspect doesn't live near Waco or the immediate area.

He also said a criminal investigation is ongoing, and that the hospital has now returned to normal operations.
