Local water district wants to build new water plant

A local water district wants to address Killeen's growth by building a new water plant. It plans on serving Killeen, Copperas Cove, Belton, Harker Heights, and Nolanville.

The WCID #1 is asking for surrounding cities to assist with the building of the new water plant.

The city of Killeen is quickly approaching its capacity limit for water, and the WCID #1 is looking to expand the capacity limit before it becomes an issue.

Killeen Mayor Dan Corbin said, "It's not like we are ever out of water, but we are in a situation where we could solve in the near future through water rationing during a very hot period of time."

WCID #1 has already approached Harker Heights, and Copperas Cove.
