Power plant expansion to bring hundreds of jobs to Central Texas

Posted:

In mid-construction, Panda has decided to double the size of the power plant they are building in Temple.

The expansion is supposed to bring between six and eight hundred jobs to Temple, and once the power plant comes on line eighty to ninety permanent jobs will be added.

Lee Peterson, the President of Temple's Economic Development Corporation, told News Channel 25's Markeya Thomas how much money the plant should bring in.

"The big value in this plant is the investment. The plant will be 1.6 billion dollars, and a lot of that money will end up here in Temple," said Peterson.

Although Temple is one of the few cities to have maintained stability in the current economy, the construction of the plant will be a huge improvement in Temple's economy for a period of time.

The plant will also assist with the energy shortage in Texas. It will be able to bring up 50% of the power in ten minutes, and have the power up to 100% capacity in thirty minutes.

"When it gets hot in the summer time and people start kicking on air conditions at the peak of demand times, they need this kind of response," said Temple Mayor William Jones.

The city of Temple is proud to attract an investor like Panda, and will continue to do what is necessary to maintain a stable economy.

"We look for ways to say yes, not ways to say no," explains Jones. "We do not want the government to be in the way of business being able to create jobs and create investment and wealth."
