Bell County man convicted of murder sentenced to 15 years

John Stanton Beasley Jr., who was found guilty of murder on Wednesday, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday.

A judge also said that Beasley was eligible for parole after half of his sentence.

Beasley told the jury on Wednesday he is a good guy who worked, and stayed out of trouble. He said he was at his mother's birthday party earlier that day, where he was drinking with his friend Brandon Lawrence. During the party, he called to ask his step father to borrow his tan Chevrolet Tahoe and the step father in return asked for Beasley to drive James Broland and Tamojeane Tambakis to the pawn store.

Beasley claims when police pursued him, he started to pull over but Broland produced a weapon and demanded that Beasley kept driving.

The chase ended when the vehicle hit a curb and went airborne. The vehicle hit an electric pole, and a tree before flipping over. Autopsies revealed that Tambakis and Broland were dead on the scene.

The state of Texas does not have a vehicular homicide or vehicular manslaughter charge.
