Two teens in custody for vandalism at Groesbeck Middle School

Police detained two teenagers who are accused of causing $50,000 in damages at Groesbeck Middle School over the weekend.

The two male suspects are 14 and 15 years of age and both have been charged with burglary of a building and criminal mischief. Authorities say that one of the suspects attended the school and the other was home schooled.

Classes were delayed and classroom locations had to be shuffled around on Monday because of the damage at the school.

A school district spokesman says the vandals broke into the back of the building near an annex and broke several windows that could not be seen from the street.

The vandals then entered the building and broke classroom door windows. They smashed several computers and damaged many other items. Paint was spread throughout the building and vending machines were also broken.

Some classrooms were still useable, but many students were moved into either undamaged rooms or into the school gym.

The school district says no security cameras were in place to catch any of the activity. Security cameras will be a part of a bond issue that will be voted on in May.
