Rabid skunk found in Woodway

Posted:
WOODWAY -

Woodway confirmed Monday its first case of rabies. A skunk was found in the 400 block of Shadow Mountain in Woodway last week.

Tests confirmed that the skunk was rabid.

This is the sixth case of rabies found in the Central Texas area. Last week, Waco police found a cat and a skunk that tested positive for rabies. Earlier in March, three rabid skunks were also found in Gatesville.

Pet owners are encouraged to give their animals annual rabies vaccinations. Authorities want residents to keep an eye on their pets and to watch for any signs of the abnormal behavior.

If anyone sees a risk animal such as skunks, bats, foxes, coyotes, and raccoons, that are acting strange, they should contact their local authorities.
