Congressman Bill Flores talks Immigration reform at TSTC

Texas has a big interest in how congress overhauls immigration.

Congressman Bill Flores was in Waco Monday night to address the progress being made on the hill. The White House said Monday it's encouraged about progress, but others worry immigration legislation could be passed too quickly.

That's a main concern of Flores, and the people at Monday night's town hall meeting at Texas State Technical College.

Texas has the largest immigration population, the largest illegal population and the largest number of dreamers, which are undocumented youth. And those are the three main issues Flores and the government are trying to tackle.

Border control also remains a big issue in the state. Currently, the U.S. boarder has 22,000 agents, 651 miles of fence, 125 airplanes and 6 drones all patrolling the boarder.

Flores strongly opposes illegal immigration and believes the issue can be solved.

"There is a group of eight bipartisan members in the Senate and House that are doing the same thing," said Flores. "I'm also in a separate subgroup called immigration reform causes and we're trying to address the issue to try to let the best and brightest ideas come from events like this, or folks coming to my office."

As the Senate continues to work something out, President Obama is hoping an issue is solved next month and a bill to be signed as soon as possible.
