Wacoans Arrested in New Orleans Prostitution Ring

Posted:
NEW ORLEANS -

New Orleans police arrested several Wacoans late Tuesday night they say were in the city running a small-time prostitution ring. Vice Officers say 23-year old Eddie Sowells picked up three young women in Waco and drove them to New Orleans to work as prostitutes at a Central Business District hotel.

According to a release from NOPD, detectives discovered the ring through the website, "Backpage.com" and arranged to meet 19-year old Alexis Keener in a hotel on St. Charles Avenue.

Officers say they made the bust after Keener called a 19-year old acquaintance to the room to bring condoms.

Detectives say Sowells would get a 50% cut of what the women were paid.  He faces charges including pandering and human trafficking.

Also arrested were 24-year old Katrina Walls who authorities say rented the three hotel rooms for the prostitution ring.   Alexis Keener, age 19, is charged with prostitution and Taylor Courtney, also 19, faces charges related to having a gun that was stolen in Waco.

The unidentified 19 year old woman was not booked.
