Police find rabid cat in Waco

Waco police have found a cat that has tested positive for rabies. This is the city's first rabies case of the year.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton says the cat was found in the 2600 block of South 3rd St., and later tested positive for rabies.

This is the fourth case of rabies found in the Central Texas area. Three rabid skunks were found in Gatesville earlier this month.

Pet owners are encouraged to give their animals annual rabies vaccinations. Authorities want residents to keep an eye on their pets and to watch for any signs of the abnormal behavior.

If anyone sees a risk animal such as skunks, bats, foxes, coyotes, and raccoons, that are acting strange, they should contact their local authorities.
