Train blocks residents in for 2 hours

It's a common act in the town of Riesel and in McLennan County. A Union Pacific train stopping on the tracks blocking driveways.

"This is the first they remain there for a long period time," said Chief Danny Krumnow, Riesel Police Department.

This time, for more than two hours, and it seems to be getting worse. Texas law allows trains to be stopped on tracks for only ten minutes.

"This has been an ongoing problem with trains in McLennan County that will stop and remain in place for long periods of time," said Krumnow.

I talked to one resident who didn't want to be on camera, and she said she is fed up. The train caused her to be late for work and her children to school.

When Chief Krumnow was called to the scene, the engineer of the train was not cooperating.

"He ran back into the train and slammed the door and locked it. So, I then called the company and told them I considered that he was fleeing," said Krumnow.

But this time, according to a statement by Union Pacific, "We stopped a train at the Broadway crossing after determining there was a broken rail on the tracks this morning. Crews were immediately dispatched to make the unexpected repairs, however, the effort took longer than we would have liked. We realize this was an inconvenience and apologize to anyone who was affected."

When News Channel 25 asked Union Pacific about this being a common problem, they said they will start to look into the issue. People in the Riesel hope that happens soon.
