Convicted child sex offender sentenced to life plus 139 years

MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) -

The man recently convicted of sexually assaulting a little girl and accused of molesting seven others more than 20 years ago was sentenced to life plus 139 years in prison. After more than two hours of waiting, both sides wept as the jury came back with the punishment.

36 year-old Tomas Ramirez was convicted Thursday of two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of indecency with a child by contact. The jury gave him life for one aggravated assault charge, 99 years for the other and 20 years for each indecency charge.

Monday was the second day the jury heard testimony in the punishment phase. The State called in the seven other alleged victims that accused Ramirez of sexually abusing them when they were just little girls.

The prosecution is pushing for the maximum punishment, which is life plus 40 years in prison. Inclosing arguments the state told jurors to remember the women who testified in court today were only little girls at the time of their alleged abuse.

When the defense got up, he asked jurors to consider that there was another side of Ramirez. He said that he deserves hope and that his friends and family testified that he was a good father, a good son and that even if they were to give him the minimum he would still have to serve 30 years before he was even eligible for parole.
