WACO -

A Waco man and woman have been arrested for holding a group of people at gunpoint at a downtown motel Friday night. 29-year-old Edward James Simmons Jr. and 26-year-old Victoria Ann Rodriguez are both facing various charges for an incident at a motel in the 1700 block of Washington Ave.

Authorities say that a female victim had lived with Rodriguez, and was planning on moving out of the motel. According to police, the victim had owed Rodriguez an unspecified amount of money.

When the victim and her friends came to pick up her clothes from the motel, Rodriguez and Simmons were there too. The two suspects are accused of holding them at gunpoint and preventing them from leaving or calling for help.

The incident lasted from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A female witness came to the room, saw what was happening and left to call police.

When officers arrived, they took Rodriguez and Simmons into custody and recovered two handguns. Both suspects have been charged with unlawful restraint, aggravated assault and interference with an emergency call.

They were both booked into McLennan County Jail.
