Local woman accused of abusing emergency call system

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A 36-year-old Waco woman has been taken to the McLennan County Jail on charges that she abused the 9-1-1 system.

Police say the incidents began Thursday afternoon when they were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of Frost Ave on a 9-1-1 hang up call. Police say officers always respond to 9-1-1 hang ups in case the phone might have been taken away from the caller or the caller has become incapacitated.

When officers arrived, they found Veronica Lanette Carprew belligerent to the officers, and determined that there was no emergency. The officer told her not to call 9-1-1 again and left.

Over the next half hour, Carprew made nine emergency calls. Some of the calls were silent, and some of them involved her becoming belligerent to the dispatcher.

Officers were sent back to Carprew's home, and determined that she had an outstanding arrest warrant. She was also charged with abuse of the 9-1-1 system.
