Waco suspect dead after shootout with U.S. Border Patrol agents

A Waco suspect is dead after engaging in a shootout with U.S. Border Patrol agents early Thursday morning. The incident happened on FM 649 and Chihuahua Rd. south of Hebbronville, Texas.

Agents conducted an interview with the suspect before he got combative. Authorities say the suspect drew a weapon and shot one of the agents.

Another agent on the scene discharged his firearm and disabled the suspect. The injured agent was airlifted to a medical facility and the suspect was pronounced dead on the scene.

Initial information says that the suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and that he is accused of an armed robbery and carjacking in Waco.

"Our agents put their lives on the line every day and night to protect our borders. This is an example of our dedicated public servants keeping our community and Nation safe from those who would do us harm. We pray for the speedy and full recovery of our agent," said Robert L. Harris, CBP Commander, South Texas.
