Temple police to increase traffic enforcement on 31st Street

TEMPLE -

The Temple Police Department announced that they will increase traffic enforcement on 31st Street immediately. Police will have a special focus from Avenue R south to Farm to Market Road 93.

Police data shows that 15 fatal crashes occurred in Temple since January 2012.  33 percent of the fatal accidents have been on South 31st Street. All fatal crashes this year in Temple have occurred on the same street.

In 2012, Temple Police investigated 270 crashes on South 31st Street, which is 26 percent more wrecks than in 2011. Police hope to end this trend of fatal wrecks.

Temple police have seen a direct relationship between highly visible, consistent traffic law enforcement in a focused area and a reduction in the rate of crashes in that area.

Police say they will have an increased presence on South 31st Street for the foreseeable future.
