Fort Hood case judge to hear from terrorism expert

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A judge is to decide if a terrorism consultant will testify at the trial of the Army psychiatrist charged in a deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage.

Maj. Nidal Hasan's attorneys object to the testimony of Evan Kohlmann, who's expected to be questioned at a pretrial hearing Wednesday.

Kohlmann says Hasan meets six factors that indicate someone is a homegrown terrorist. Defense attorneys say prosecutors don't need Kohlmann's testimony or 50-page report on Hasan's case to show a motive or premeditation.

Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the shootings at the Central Texas Army post.

Hasan, an American-born Muslim, faces the death penalty if convicted. His trial is to start with jury selection May 29 and testimony July 1.
