CENTRAL TEXAS -
A 62-year-old man was rescued from his wrecked pick up truck Tuesday afternoon after he was stuck in his vehicle in a creek bed overnight. DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson says the accident occurred about 8:45 p.m. Monday on Interstate 35 near the Pilot Truck Stop on the south side of Waco.
A Waco man, identified as Donald Bessire, somehow lost control of his 2003 Chevy S-10 pick up truck, and went off the road and down an embankment into a creek. The truck remained upright overnight, and the victim remained safe.
The vehicle was damaged from the incident, and the doors jammed so Bessire could not get out.
He was initially knocked unconscious, but when he regain consciousness he called a friend for help. Bessire initially told his friend that he had wrecked near Loop 340 and Bagby, but was not certain where he was.
Waco, Hewitt and Robinson Police Departments, along with Texas Department of Public Safety officers and the DPS helicopter, conducted a search for Bessire, but could not locate the wreck.
Monday at noon Bessire managed to make another call, and was accurately able to determined where he was.
The truck was found and the Robinson Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut into the truck to rescue the man. Bessire was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
