WACO -
One man is sent to the hospital after Waco police were called for a disturbance at a home.
Around 7:30pm, authorities responded to 2010 Lyle Avenue when a fight broke out between Alexander Howard Mendoza and his girlfriend.
The grandfather of the home called the police. When authorities came to the house, the 19-year-old was armed. He was told by officers to put the gun down, but refused and was shot by police in self-defense.
Waco police say six-year patrol officer Francisco Reyes discharged his weapon in self-defense.
Mendoza was hit in the stomach and was rushed to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. The grandfather has an injury to the hand, and police are not sure what cause it.
The crime scene unit is investigating the incident. Mendoza received a minor injury, and he was moved to McLennan County Jail after he was treated. He faces attempted capital murder charges.
