A wanted McLennan County man was killed by a deputy U.S. Marshal Monday as he visited a friend in a North Waco Neighborhood. The suspect, 30-year-old Transcini Richerson, was wanted for assault strangulation and family violence.
The U.S. Marshal Task Force found him sitting in a vehicle on the 2600 block of Cumberland Avenue. When officers approached the vehicle to take Richerson into custody, he ignored officers' orders of showing his hands.
The suspect continued to ignore police and started reaching in a downward motion. One of the U.S. Deputy Marshals fired his weapon in self-defense.
Richerson was transported by ETMC to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he later died from his wounds.
He had prior arrests for assaulting a peace officer and evading arrest. Richerson also had been convicted of unlawfully carrying a weapon, deadly conduct, possession of drugs and manufacturing or delivery of a controlled substance.
At one point more than a dozen investigators were there talking to neighbors and working the scene. Waco Police responded to the scene after hearing a gunshot call on the scanners. No U.S. Marshals or officers were injured in the shooting.
