Gemba Academy, the leader in online lean and six sigma training, announces the launch of the new Gemba Live! series of video modules. This series will show lean in use at innovative and passionate organizations, taking viewers into their operations, onto their shop floors, and interviewing their leaders.

Seeing lean in action is one of the most powerful ways to show teams that, yes, lean can really work.

Gemba Academy is fortunate to have contacts and fans at some of the best organizations in the world. These organizations and their leaders have graciously agreed to share their successes, and lessons, with our subscribers.

The first group of videos in the Gemba Live! series is from a company many will recognize, FastCap in Bellingham, Washington, lead by Paul Akers. With 22 video modules, viewers will learn how lean has transformed every aspect of the company, even how the bathrooms are cleaned.

Filming has already been completed at a second organization, a medical device company in California, and those video modules will be added to the Gemba Live! series in April.

The Gemba Live! series is included with a School of Lean or Combo subscription.

The Gemba Academy Difference

Both the School of Six Sigma and the School of Lean follow the traditional Gemba Academy "site-based" subscription model: train as many as you want, whenever you want, and as often as your want, for one fixed annual price. Far less expensive than traditional training, bringing in consultants, or sending people to workshops.

Traditionally, six sigma has been seen by some as an "elitist" methodology where only a few "chosen" people are selected to attend training. The site-based subscriptions - which start at $1,295 for a one year subscription - will enable anyone interested in learning about lean and six sigma the opportunity to do so.

For those interested, there is also a black belt certification option which will require both project work and the passing of an exam. This is a rigorous process, and not a certification mill where people essentially buy their certification.

Lean vs. Six Sigma

Additionally, another aspect of Continuous Improvement relates to the lean versus six sigma debate. There are some "lean thinkers" who have less than kind things to say about six sigma. And, to be sure, there are hard core "six sigma practitioners" who believe lean is nothing more than laying tape on the ground and drawing value stream maps; obviously flawed logic. Gemba Academy believes that both lean and six sigma are valuable improvement methods.
