Bell County's population continues to grow

KILLEEN -

Texas cities had the largest one year population growth in both percentages and numbers. Amongst those cities is Bell County, growing 1.9% in a one year period.

The Census Bureau estimates that more than 400,000 people live in the Killeen-Temple metropolitan statistical area. The Bell County Commissioner's Office believes this is due to a stable economy, prime location, military and government, and ongoing medical developments.

David Blackburn, City Manager of Temple, released a statement to News Channel 25.

"The City of Temple has had and will continue to have an aggressive capital improvement plan.  We have invested and reinvested in our transportation, water, and sewer infrastructure. The City also continues with aggressive economic development efforts improving Temple's quality of place.  We are pleased to see growth in retail as well as growth in population."

Between 1999 and 2000, Bell County grew 20%, and between 2000 and 2010, 30%. TxDOT believes in twenty years, Killeen will become home to more than 200,000 people alone.
