A local no-kill animal shelter was broken into Tuesday morning. A couple of thieves broke into Happy Endings Dog Rescue on Hewitt Drive, and took the cash register and safe.
A spokeswoman for the shelter says they got in through a window on the north side of the lobby. An undetermined amount of cash was taken, but surveillance video hopefully will lead to arrests.
The theft is a big loss for the shelter, which also provides medical care for the rescued dogs.
