Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery break ground on new columbarium

Posted:
KILLEEN -

A groundbreaking ceremony for a new columbarium was held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery Monday. Congressman John Carter and top officials with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

The cemetery in Killeen is receiving a $1 million grant to build an additional columbarium for remains of 1,600 veterans. It will serve veterans and their families.

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen was the first of four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries statewide. In 2006, the cemetery was dedicated and has an ultimate capacity for up to 50,000 burials and interments of cremated remains.
