Convicted sex offender arrested for drive-by shooting

Posted:
WACO -

A convicted sex offender has been arrested after he is accused of shooting a car on March 2. 25-year-old Dontay Jerrall Byrd has been charged with aggravated assault for the incident.

Police say Byrd shot at a tan Grand Marquis as he drove pass it near the intersection of Faulkner and Preston. The driver of the Grand Marquis was struck in the hand during the shooting.

During the investigation, police developed the identity of the shooter and obtained a warrant for this arrest.

Byrd is a convicted felon and a sex offender, and police say he shouldn't of had either a pistol or ammo in his possession.

Police say the victim and Byrd had been involved in a previous disturbance back in February and did know each other.
