Jackson, Austin Lead Baylor's All-Big 12 Honors

Jackson named to second team, Austin third team, Jefferson honorable mention

IRVING, Texas – Baylor senior Pierre Jackson was named to the 2013 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 second team, freshman Isaiah Austin earned third-team honors and was named to the Big 12 All-Rookie team, and junior Cory Jefferson was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection, as announced by the conference office Sunday.

The official All-Big 12 awards are chosen by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players. Baylor has now had multiple players named to the coaches' All-Big 12 teams in each of the last four seasons.

Jackson, who was also named to the second team in 2012, joins Brian Skinner and LaceDarius Dunn as the only players in program history to be chosen to the coaches' All-Big 12 first or second teams in consecutive seasons. Jackson was also named Big 12 Player of the Week on Sunday, one day leading the Bears with 28 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds in a win over No. 4/3 Kansas.

Jackson leads the Big 12 in scoring (19.4 ppg) and assists (6.6 apg), placing him on track to become the fifth player to lead a power-6 conference in scoring and assists in the last 24 years. Each of the previous four players to do so were named first-team all-conference, with three picking up All-America and conference player of the year honors. Jackson was named to the Kansas City Star's All-Big 12 first team on Saturday.

Austin is the first freshman in program history to be named to a coaches' All-Big 12 team. He ranks second in the Big 12 with 8.8 rebounds per game, third with 10 double-doubles, fourth with 1.6 blocks per game and 11th with 13.6 points per game. Austin is the nation's only freshman from a power-6 conference with 10 double-doubles on the year, and he's the fifth Baylor player in the last four seasons to be named to the Big 12 All-Rookie team.

Jefferson, a fourth-year junior who made only one start in 55 games over his first two seasons, has started all 31 games for the Bears this season. He leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage (58.6), ranks second in blocks (2.0 bpg), fourth in rebounding (8.2 rpg), fourth in double-doubles (9) and 13th in scoring (12.1 ppg).

Jefferson has scored more than twice as many points and grabbed more than twice as many rebounds this season than in his first two years as a Bear combined. He has 351 points and 248 rebounds in 31 games this year after recording 148 points and 115 rebounds over 55 games in his first two seasons.

No. 6 seed Baylor takes on third-seeded Oklahoma State at 8:30 p.m. CT Thursday in the last quarterfinal game at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. The game will be televised on Big 12 Network from Kansas City's Sprint Center.
