Five people sent to hospital after officer involved car accident

Posted:
BELLMEAD -

A Bellmead police officer and four others have been sent to a local hospital after a two car collision occurred Friday morning. The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. at Lake Shore Drive and Interstate 35.

A Bellmead fire truck was en route to a previous accident on the west side of Interstate 35 and was being followed by an unmarked Bellmead patrol car. Although the car was unmarked, it had flashing lights in the grill and operating siren.

The fire truck made it through the intersection, but the patrol car collided with a 1994 Lincoln continental. The officer involved in the wreck was 59-year-old J.W. Eslick, and the other vehicle was driven by 24-year-old Heather Norton.

Norton's vehicle was struck on the passenger side, and her and three other children in the vehicle were transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Eslick was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
