A Central Texas man is in jail after being involved in a five hour standoff with police Thursday morning. Tyler Staas was charged with evading arrest, assault on a police officer and abuse of the 911 system.
Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Bellaire at around midnight. Staas and his girlfriend were involved in a disturbance. When officers arrived on the scene, Staas displayed a rifle to authorities, and threatened to kill any officer who attempted to arrest him.
The residence was cleared out by 5 a.m., and negotiators attempted to talk to Staas for almost five hours. Gas was injected into the home about 4:45 a.m., but Staas still refused to come out of the home.
Officers forced their way into the home at about 5 a.m., and took him into custody without further trouble. No one was injured in the incident.
