Local man accused injuring mother and child during assault

WACO -

A Waco man has been arrested after he is accused of assaulting the mother of his children. Lahija Dieon Washington was charged with burglary of habitation, injury to a child and parole violation.

The incident occurred February 4 in the 1100 block of Adams, when Washington confronted the female victim at her sister's house. The upset Washington acted as if he was going to hit the victim, but did not because the victim's sister intervened and told Washington to leave.

Several hours later, Washington returned and broke into the home uninvited. He approached the victim and began punching her in the head. The victim was stuck multiple times, and became dazed when hit in the temple.

The victim's family saw Washington hit the victim with a closed fist several times in the head. He then pulled the victim to the ground and started kicking and stomping her.

During the altercation, one of the victim's children ran to his mother's aid. The child was hit in the head by Washington as he attempted to hit the female victim. The child was eventually taken out of harm's way.

The victim's mother and sister were able to eventually separate Washington and the victim, and Washington fled.

The victim had scrapes on her back, pain and bruises to her head and a swollen hand.
