A local man has been arrested after he is accused of stealing a sword from a Waco store early Tuesday morning. 21-year-old Steven Walker Webb has been charged for theft, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest for the incident.
Police were notified at 8:15 a.m. of a theft at the Discount Smoke Shop in the 1400 block of N. 34th. The store clerk told 911 operators Webb was stealing items from the store. The clerk gave a description of the suspect and notified police the suspect had left the store.
When officers arrived in the area they found Webb in the 3200 block of W. Edmond. He had taken several items from the store including a 4-foot sword. As officers approached the suspect, Webb refused to put it down the sword.
Officers deployed a taser on the suspect and took him into custody.
During the arrest one of the officers fractured a wrist while taking Webb into custody. The injured officer was taken to a medical facility to be treated.
Webb has been taken to the McLennan County Jail.
