Killeen residents evacuated from homes during late night fire

KILLEEN -

Residents in a Killeen neighborhood were evacuated late Sunday night following a fire in a nearby home. Killeen Fire Department were sent to a home in the 3200 block of Longview Drive at around 8:42 p.m.

When they arrived, they found the house engulfed in flames and a woman screaming that her son was still inside the home. Firefighters went into the home, but were unable to locate anyone.

Law enforcement received a call minutes later from employees at a nearby Jack in the Box that an injured male needed medical attention.  When officers arrived at the restaurant, they found a man who was believed to be in the burning home.

The victim was able to escape through a window in the back of the house. He was transported to the Scott & White Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three homes on each side of the burning house were evacuated due to high winds in the area.  Firefighters fought the blaze for an hour.

The American Red Cross is assisting the two residents displaced from their home.
