CORYELL COUNTY -
The Texas Forest Services says the 502 acre fire that started Sunday night has been fully contained. Officials say the fire should be fully under control by 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
Hotspots still appeared in various parts of Iron Bridge Park after the fire rekindled on Tuesday afternoon. On Thursday, fire officials said the fire was moving towards Coryell County, and headed towards a rural part of the county where it would eventually burn itself out.
Four different departments including Gatesville and Morgan's Point fire crews were working to contain the brush fire at Iron Bridge Park near Mother Neff State Park.
Several homes were evacuated when the fire started again. A few of the families were able to return to their homes, but some were not as a precaution.
Crews were working to get the fire under control using three bulldozers to draw containment lines.
Officials at the scene are saying the fire started around 4 p.m. Sunday when a camp fire got out of control due to high winds. The same high winds blew the fire back into the previously burnt area on Tuesday and allowed fire crews to fully contain the blaze.
Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said the fire started up again near Deer Ridge Rd. and Iron Bridge Dr., around the north end of Belton Lake.
