Man arrested after attempting to dispose drugs during pursuit

A local man has been arrested for an incident that occurred in late December. Ruben Fajardo was arrested and charged on Tuesday for possession of meth.

The incident happened early morning on December 29 when an officer driving in the 2700 block of Mildred Ave. saw someone in a car fire a weapon into the air. The officer attempted to stop the car, but Fajardo fled and a pursuit began.

As pursuit went over the Brazos River, Fajardo pulled up to the rail and attempted to throw items into the river as officers approached. The items bounced off the rail and landed on the roadway instead.

Fajardo sped off again, and officers stopped to recover bags of what appeared to be meth and a handgun.

The pursuit resumed until Fajardo struck a utility pole in the 800 block of Garrison. Fajardo was injured and was transported to a local hospital.

After he was released and lab tests were completed on the materials that had been recovered an arrest warrant was obtained for Fajardo.

He is now in McLennan County Jail.
