Central Texas schools noticing decrease in weapons incidents

Central Texas schools are seeing a decrease in the number of reported weapons incidents. Over the last six years, there have been 35 percent fewer incidents of weapons being brought on Texas public school campuses.

Temple I.S.D. Assistant Superintendent Scott Moger tells us they have made significant changes in security and are receiving positive feedback from parents.

"Parents, they are very happy we contacted the city of Temple and the police and ask for additional police cars to be around our schools or along the campus then we went on lock down mode," Moger said. "A lot of parents found out later and we got calls that said thank you even though it happened you know back east thank you for taking care of our kids here"

They have also added additional security cameras, and a special school resource officer.

Temple I.S.D. now requires for their faculty and staff to undergo training to help keep students and the classroom calm in case of emergencies.
