Pay up or spend the night in jail!
Starting on March 2, police from a number of local departments are conducting a warrant round-up.
Central Texas will be participating in the state wide effort to make citizens pay their outstanding balances. The alternative is jail if you aren't able to pay.
The city of Waco alone has over 16,000 traffic warrants totaling $11million in unpaid fines.
Around 10% of the revenue goes to the city, and the rest to the state.
Last year, 89 people spent the night in jail after a similar round-up. All police agencies will be adding extra officers to help out.
"Our sole purpose is to go out and find some of these offenders and hold them responsible and put them in jail if they don't have the money available to pay for their fines," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton, Waco Police Public Information Officer.
If you can't pay the balance, officials are willing to work with you, but then you'll have to follow the agreed plan.
Payment plans are available by visiting your local municipal court. The warrant round-up will last for several weeks.
