COPPERAS COVE -

A Copperas Cove woman has been arrested after police discover a gun she had hidden under her daughter's mattress. Brenda Lee Fies was charged with endangering a child and interference with public duties for an incident that occurred Monday night.

Police responded to a home in the 700 block South 11th Street for a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they found a man outside the home and learned that he and his wife, Fies, had a verbal argument. Police learned that Fies had locked herself and the couple's 9-year-old daughter inside the home with firearms.

Fies eventually allowed police inside the home, and officers found a loaded .22 caliber rifle hidden by Fies underneath the mattress of the child's bed. No injuries were reported during this incident.

Fies was arrested and charged with endangering a child and interference with public duties. She received $22,000 Personal Recognizance Bond, and has since been released from custody.
