Wind gusts cause scattered power outages

Strong wind knocked out power to thousands of Central Texans. Wind gusts reached more than 50 miles per hour in some areas leaving some Oncor Energy customers in the dark.

At last check the power has been restored to about 5,000 customers in Bell County, leaving nearly 400 in the dark. In McLennan County, the number of people without power has risen from just over 100 to more than 400.

An Oncor spokesman said he couldn't confirm that all the outages were caused by the wind but he did say that the wind may be a factor.

At one point, more than 5,500 Oncor customers were without power in Bell County alone. Killeen, Salado and Temple were the hardest hit areas.

It wasn't nearly as bad in McLennan County. At its peak, the scattered outages left only a little over 300 people were without power.

On the 3500 block of North 31St Street in Waco, a resident reported that the wind had knocked a tree into a power line. An Oncor worker fixed the power line in about half an hour.

The Oncor spokesman told News Channel 25, that workers will continue to try and restore power to it's customers as fast as possible.
