Baylor Men’s Golf One Shot Back of Lead at Bayou City

HOUSTON – Baylor's men's golf team is in second place after Friday's opening round at the Bayou City Collegiate Championships. Filippo Zucchetti leads the Bears and is tied for third place individually.

Baylor shot 2-under-par 286 in the opening round, which put the Bears only one shot behind the tournament leader, No. 3 Texas (3-under 285). Charlotte is in third place at 1-over-par 289, and Chattanooga, UT Arlington, and East Carolina are tied for fourth at 2-over 290.

"The guys played well," head coach Greg Priest said. "They played pretty consistent all day. We just didn't finish well. We were 9-under going into 17 and we wound up playing 17 and 18 at 7-over as a team."

Zucchetti is two strokes off the lead after posting an opening round 3-under-par 69. He is currently trailing Brax McCarthy of Texas and Kyle Pilgrim of Houston who shot 5-under 67 and 4-under 68, respectfully.

Sophomore Kyle Jones is tied for 11th after posting a 1-under-par round of 71, followed by Niclas Mansson, who is tied for 16th after an opening round of even-par 72. Sophomore Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen shot 2-over 74 and is currently tied for 41st, while freshman Andreas Gjesteby was 8-over on the day. Matthew Seligmann and Ryan O'Rear, who are both competing as individuals, are tied for 27th and 41st, respectively.

"We really want to just do the same thing we did today," Priest said. "We were very consistent and kept the ball in play, and the only hiccup we had all day was on the 18th hole. We just have to make adjustments and try to get better tomorrow."
