Big 12 Indoor Track And Field Championships Postponed

AMES, Iowa – The 2013 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships have been delayed by one day, because of inclement weather in the Midwest.

The announcement was made by the Big 12 Conference office on Thursday night, after a vote by the league's athletic directors.

The meet was originally slated to begin on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Lied Recreation Center on the campus of Iowa State, but with the change Friday's action will be pushed to Saturday and Saturday's action to Sunday.

The winter storm that has dumped snow across the Midwest forced Baylor to change its travel plans as well.

The Bears departed from Waco on Thursday at 3:15 a.m. in order to avoid a likely cancelled flight from Dallas to Kansas City, Mo. The change in flights took Baylor from Dallas to Minneapolis, Minn. From that location, the Bears then bused downed to Ames, Iowa, arriving at 1:45 p.m.

After arriving, BU went through a light workout at the competition facility, before wrapping up the day with a team meal and meeting.

The league's decision to delay the event was based on the fact that several teams were delayed in getting to Ames and one team, Oklahoma State, is currently stranded in Topeka, Kan., and would have likely missed a majority of Friday's action.

Saturday's events will start at 10 a.m. with the women's pentathlon 60-meter hurdles and conclude at 9 p.m. with the men's distance medley relay. Sunday will open with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 11 a.m., and wrap up at 5:25 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
