TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) -

Three men have been arrested after police officers found narcotics and an unlawful firearm in a Temple home. The incident occurred at a home in the 1000 block of South 5th Street Tuesday in Temple.

When police arrived at the home, one of the suspects went around the home in an apparent attempt to avoid the officer. The officer then chased the suspect around the home , but the suspect had entered the home through a back door before the officer could get him.

Two suspects on the back porch were detained by an officer until reinforcements arrived.

The officer were granted permission from the tenant of the house, 48-year-old James Wesley Drake, to search the home. When police entered the home they saw a handgun and several indicators of narcotics in the home.

Officers detained several suspects inside the home, until agents with the special investigations unit arrived on the scene. The agents were granted permission to search the home for drugs, and during the search agents and officers found methamphetamine inside.

The officers were able to determine the handgun belonged to 29-year-old Jedidiah Edward Smith. Smith had been convicted of a felony grade offense and was not legally allowed to possess a weapon.

Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Drake and 35-year-old Juan Torress Jr. was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
