Local man finds girlfriend with another man, erupts into violent rampage

WACO, TX (KXXV) -

A local man is in jail after erupting into a violent rampage early Sunday morning. Police say Chris Dowdy is accused of aggravated assault after injuring his girlfriend with his car.

Police say around 4:30 a.m. Dowdy apparently spotted his girlfriend in her car with another man. He then gave chase on Interstate 35 and started ramming her car to get her to stop. Her vehicle eventually crashed the Harley Davidson dealership by I-35 and New Road.

Once the vehicle came to a stop the other man in the victim's vehicle ran away. Police say Dowdy then pulled his girlfriend out of her wrecked car and into his vehicle.

"We just know that he saw her somewhere up in north Waco area with another man in her car, took off chasing her. Apparently caught up to her around the interstate area and that's when he started ramming her car with his, running her off the road," Waco PD spokesperson Sgt. Patrick Swanton said.

Police spotted the couple nearby on Interstate 35 near the Rodeway Inn.

Police say the woman had "significant injuries" and was transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Information on her current status is unavailable.

Dowdy was arrested on aggravated assault charges and transported to McLennan County Jail.
