Groesbeck man in custody after Teague officer involved shooting

A 26-year-old Groesbeck man was shot by a Teague police officer Friday evening after he is accused of attacking the officer with a knife. Police responded to a disturbance call in the 1300 block of China Street in Teague at about 6:55 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found several people in the front yard. Officers then asked Eric Jarvis to walk to the front of a patrol car. Jarvis then pulled a knife out of his pocket and swung it at an officer.

Officers then told Jarvis to drop the knife, but he put the knife to his neck and was telling officers to shoot him. Officers continued telling Jarvis to drop the knife, and he eventually pulled the knife down from his neck and started to charging an officer.

As Jarvis charged at the officer, another officer at the scene opened fire and struck Jarvis in the left arm and stomach area. Jarvis then walked over to some steps and sat down. Officers were then able to remove the knife from Jarvis and called for medical attention.

Jarvis was treated at the scene by Teague EMS personnel then air-lifted to Scott and White Hospital in Temple where he was listed in stable condition.

The Texas Rangers were called in by the Teague Police Department and have taken over the investigation of the case.
