WACO -
The man responsible for driving his pickup truck into an apartment complex earlier in February turned himself in Tuesday. Jeremy Blake Lopez has been charged with failure to stop and render aid.
After leaving the scene of the accident, Lopez fled to a McLennan Community College parking garage. A source told News Channel 25 that the 19 year-old driver sustained the injuries from either falling or jumping off the parking garage.
Lopez slammed his truck through the bedroom wall of an apartment unit at 1500 Lake Shore Drive. A couple was inside with their newborn baby.
News Channel 25 talked with the man who lives in that apartment. He said they were asleep when the next thing they knew, the truck was in their bedroom. He also told us that when he went outside to see what happened he saw a woman jump out of the truck and yell that the driver was her drunken best friend.
Fortunately, no one in the apartment was seriously injured although the man did say his back and neck were hurting and that his girlfriend was suffering from a bad headache.
Lopez was later arrested on the MCC campus and then taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he was in intensive care.
