Officer identified in fatal weekend shooting

A man in Copperas Cove was killed by an officer over the weekend. The shooting happened on the 500 block of Westview Lane.

According to the Justice of Peace, the man who was killed has been identified as 24-year-old Kristofer Gagliardi. An officer responded to a disturbance call from a neighbor on Saturday evening. When the responding officer arrived, he saw Gagliardi armed with a knife in his hand.

One neighbor's children heard the gun shots, and came and told her. She tells News Channel 25 what she heard from the distraught mother of Gagliardi's when she ran out moments later.

"I asked the woman if she needed anything and she was screaming saying, 'Don't call the cops for a fight because they will just shoot you'," said Rebecca Lamphere.

Gagliardi's autopsy report confirmed that he was killed by two gun shot wounds to the chest.

Copperas Cove police have identified officer Billy Jo Ray III as the officer involved in the shooting. Ray has been put on restricted duty during the investigation.
