Convicted murderer execution date set for May 7

WACO -

A Waco man convicted of murder is scheduled to be executed on May 7. Carroll Joe Parr was back in court Monday morning at 10 a.m. when his date was set.

McLennan County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said heavy security was provided for the courthouse during Monday's hearing. Ten additional SWAT team members were provided for security for the hearing and the transfer.

Cawthon also said that added security would be the standard procedure for the future when it comes to moving high risk prisoners in and out of the courthouse.

He was convicted of robbing and killing 18 year-old Joel Dominguez back in 2003. Police say Parr shot the teen after buying weed from him on North 25th Street.

Evidence at his trial linked Parr to an unsolved murder in 2001 and he also had other drug offenses. Parr's appeal was rejected just last May by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Some hardball questioning by the prosecution during the sentencing phase of Carnell Petetan Jr. trial led to some near fireworks by the defense. Petetan, who faces the death penalty for murdering his wife, sat stoic for most of the day as witnesses came up to testify against him, but that all changed as his mother spoke Wednesday afternoon. After the prosecution rested just before 11 a.m., it was the defense's turn to call up witnesses. Petetan's attorney's stressed to the jury that they were...More >>
