Fort Hood soldier punished for accidentally shooting friend

FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) -

A former Fort Hood soldier knows his punishment for shooting his friend in the head in September of 2012. Patrick Edward Myers will spend three years in a military prison and receive a bad conduct discharge for the crime.

27-year-old Myers he claims he accidentally shot Pfc. Isaac Lawrence Young in the head to scare him and stop his hiccups.

Police say Myers and some friends were drinking and watching a football game in a home at 2800 Cantabrian Dr. on Sunday night. Myers had allegedly thought the gun had dummy rounds when he discharged the gun and hit Young in the face.

Young was airlifted to Scott and White Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
