Nelson Cruz denies PED use

NEW YORK (AP) - The law firm that represents Nelson Cruz denies that the Texas Rangers outfielder used performance-enhancing drugs from a Florida clinic.

The statement came after a Miami alternative weekly newspaper reported that the 2011 AL championship series MVP's name appeared among those of other major leaguers on the clinic's purchase records. The Miami New Times reported the records showed the now-closed Coral Gables, Fla., clinic sold performance-enhancing drugs to the players, including former Ranger Alex Rodriguez.

In a statement, the Pittsburgh law firm of Farrell & Reisinger said: "We are aware of certain allegations and inferences. To the extent these allegations and inferences refer to Nelson, they are denied."

Cruz had not previously been linked to performance-enhancing drugs. Cruz hit 24 home runs last year for the Rangers.
