Soccer's Paul Jobson Promoted To Co-Head Coach

Jobson has served as associate head coach for the past five seasons.

WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer has promoted associate head coach Paul Jobson to the position of co-head coach, head coach Marci Jobson announced on Wednesday.

"This promotion recognizes what Paul has accomplished over the past eight years on my staff," Marci Jobson said. "He has been a huge part of what we have done at Baylor and this move is just the natural progression for an assistant coach who has been very successful."

"This move allows us to invest more into our team as a staff," Paul Jobson said. "We are married, so we already approach things as equals and I think this title just illustrates what our relationship has been over the course of our careers. With the promotion, outsiders will now be able to see us both as head coaches and that will allow us to reach out farther in the soccer community."

Since taking over the Baylor program in 2008, the husband and wife combination has produced unprecedented results.

"Paul has played an integral role in building Baylor soccer into a championship program," Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said. "We are blessed to have Marci and Paul providing such exceptional leadership and coaching for our soccer student-athletes."

On the field, Baylor has racked up a 58-28-17 record in the tandem's five-year tenure, making Marci the winningest coach in program history. Before the pair's arrival, BU had endured seven consecutive losing seasons, but since the Bears have been above .500 in each of the last four years.

Over the past two seasons, Baylor owns the best resume of any Big 12 team with a combined 35-5-8 overall mark and a 10-2-4 record in Big 12 play. Last year, the Bears had the best season in school history. The Jobsons led Baylor to a 19-1-5 record, the program's first Big 12 postseason title, its first berth in the NCAA Sweet 16 and the highest final rank at No. 11.

The duo has nurtured five NSCAA All-Central Region team members, including four selections last season, tying the most coached in program history for a single year. Under their guidance, Dana Larsen became just the third NSCAA All-American in school history.

Statistically, the teams the Jobsons have fielded have been among the best in school history. In 2012, Baylor set offensive team records for the most shots and corner kicks, while tallying the second-most goals and points and the third-most assists. The squad also set defensive team records by allowing the fewest shots, goals, assists and points, while also tallying the most shutouts and having the best goals against average. BU finished the season as the third-best defense in the country with a goals against average of .529. The Bears were also No. 14 in scoring offense with 2.32 goals per game and the only team in the country with just one loss.

In 2011, the Jobsons helped the Bears return to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 1999 and pick up the program's first win in NCAA Championship play.

In the classroom, a total of 68 soccer student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big 12 recognition since 2008. In 2011, Baylor set the program-record for the most honorees with 16, while also breaking the record for first-team selections (14) in 2012.

At the national level, the Jobsons have had three players honored four times as Academic All-Americans, while 15 student-athletes have earned Academic All-District honors. In the program's previous 12 years, BU had just 10 players recognized.

Jobson got his start in coaching at his alma mater, Presbyterian College, where he served as a student assistant coach while finishing his bachelor's degree in accountancy in 1999. Upon graduation, Jobson moved into a role as the assistant men's soccer coach at the school. In his playing time at Presbyterian, the Conyers, Ga., native was a three-year letterman and was a member of the squad which made the school's first NCAA Division II championship appearance.

He has also worked as an assistant coach with the WUSA's Atlanta Beat where he met Marci, who was playing for the team.

Before their time at Baylor, the Jobsons were at Northern Illinois where Paul served as an assistant coach from 2005-06 and was named associate head coach for the 2007 season. During their tenure, the pair helped lead NIU from five wins in their first season to 10 wins in 2007.

Paul is a National "A" licensed coach from the United States Soccer Federation.
