From Baylor Athletic's Department:
IRVING, Texas – After taking the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles at this past weekend's Razorback Invitational, Baylor junior Tiffani McReynolds was named the Big 12 Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week, the Big 12 Conference office announced on Tuesday.
McReynolds shaved significant time off her season-best time in the event to earn the victory, her second in as many meets this indoor season.
In the preliminary round, she was the top qualifier in 8.22. That mark tied her season-best, which she set while winning the event two weeks ago at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational.
She was again the top qualifier in the semifinals with a time of 8.19 and then went on to win the finals in 8.10. That mark bested the entire field by .15 seconds and currently ranks second in the NCAA this year.
McReynolds, who owns all 10 of Baylor's top 60-hurdle times, tied her and the program's third-best mark of all-time.
The Kansas City, Kan., native had also qualified for finals in the 60-meter dash, but the quick turnaround from the hurdles prevented her from competing. Her time in that event of 7.42 is currently tied for 25th best in the nation.
McReynolds is just the fourth Baylor female athlete to be honored with an indoor Athlete of the Week honor, joining Lauren Hagans, Tiffany Townsend and Skylar White. White was the last Lady Bear to be honored by the conference office as she won the award during the week of Jan. 18, 2011.
Baylor will be back on the track this weekend as the squad is split between the Nebraska Invitational and the Notre Dame Invitational, Feb. 1-2.
